Anita Wardell - Vocals (listen)

Anita is the UK 's leading exponent of bebop scat singing. She has performed in the US, Australia and throughout the UK and Europe. She has recorded five CDs on UK labels and her most recent release, "Noted", received rave reviews worldwide. In 2006, Anita won the "Best of Jazz "  category in the BBC Jazz Awards.

As well as keeping up a busy touring schedule, Anita teaches and lectures throughout the year at Trinity College of Music and Birmingham Conservatoire and has previously held a vocal lecturing post at Adelaide University in Australia. She runs a busy private teaching practice and is always much in demand due to her in depth knowledge of vocal jazz improvisation (see anitawardell.com for further info).

Angela Elliott - Vocals

Angela is a highly respected teacher and performer on the UK scene. Originally from Australia she came to England some years ago and has since taught at the Royal Academy of Music, Middlesex University, Leeds College of music and the Royal College of Music. She runs her own workshops in vocal technique, performance and creativity and has participated in corporate workshops for companies such as Rolls Royce and British Gas. She has tutored at various summer schools including Dartington International Summer School and Chelmsford Jazz Summer School. During trips back to Australia she is a visiting lecturer at Adelaide University. Angela is a founder member of vocal group The Shout, with whom she regularly tours England, Europe and the States. The group works with contemporary classical composers namely Richard Chew, Orlando Gough and Evelyn Ficara.


Tristan Mailliot - Drums/Rhythm

Tristan has toured with most of the leading UK jazz vocalists including Anita Wardell, Jackie Hicks, Tina May, Norma Winstone and Claire Martin and has appeared three times at Ronnie Scott's with Californian vocalist Jackie Ryan and at the pizza Express with US grammy nominee Karyn Allison.

He has performed with many top american and UK jazz legends such as Art Farmer, Jim Hall, Stan Tracey, John Dankworth , Fred Hersch, jim Mullen, Bobby Wellins ...

He is active on the UK jazz instrumental scene with recent CD releases including the Kate Williams trio, the Jim Watson trio and the Christian Brewer quintet. During the early 90's Tristan toured the US with the acclaimed smooth jazz guitar group Acoustic Alchemy. He is currently drumkit tutor at Trinity College of Music and guest tutor at the LCCM London.

Robin Aspland - Piano/Harmony

Robin AsplandRobin is one of the most accomplished pianists and accompanists in the UK . He has recorded and performed with many of the most famous UK and American singers including Curtis Steigers, Anita Wardell, Norma Winstone, Stacey Kent, Tina May, Claire Martin, Lee Gibson. He toured with Van Morrison from 1994 to 1999 and has also performed with numerous great instrumentalists such as Arturo Sandoval, George Coleman, Peter King, Gary Meek and the John Dankworth and BBC big bands. He has played on countless CDs including recordings by Van Morrison, Georgie Fame, Gerard Presencer, Anita Wardell, Tina May, Dave O'Higgins, Nigel Hitchcock…

 


 

Rob Barron - Piano

Rob BarronPianist Rob Barron graduated from Leeds College of Music in 2003, having been awarded prizes for jazz performance 3 years running. He has recently completed the Guildhall postgraduate jazz course studying under Simon Purcell. Rob currently holds the piano chair with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and has recently toured the UK and Europe with several shows and theatre productions. Artist credits include Bob Mintzer, Phil Woods, Soweto Kinch, Curtis Fuller, Jimmy Heath, Anita Wardell and Alan Barnes.

 

 

Barry Green - Piano/Harmony

Barry studied classical and jazz piano at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama,graduating in 2002. He regularly performs with Ingrid Laubrock, Mark Lockheart, Bobby Wellins Bob Martin and Martin Speake and is a member of Larry Bartley’s trio and octet.

His first CD as a leader, Timings, reflects the varied styles that Barry enjoys playing, as well as documenting his relationships with the musicians that have formed over the past few years.

He is a skilled accompanists working with many up and coming vocalists in London as well as more stablished artists such as Brigitte Beraha and Anita Wardell.

Jeremy Brown

Bassist Jeremy Brown studied at the Royal Academy of Music in the early 1990's and is now one of the most sought after players in the UK. he is a regular member of Peter King's quartet and Gerard Presencer's Platypus. he has worked with stars such as Johnny Griffin, Art farmer, Brad Mehldau, Mark Turner and performed at the proms with the julian Joseph big band.
